The Final Panama Entry!!

So this will be the final panama entry and it's ironic because I am leaving in less than 45Hrs to Quito,Ecuador for my second ever missions trip!! Oh the joyyyyyssss of  traveling on airplanes :|

PANAMA CITY BOUND
Morning! take down went well of the camp. I am now sitting here wearing the same pants for three days now.
I was speaking with Pastor Coréa and he said (in spanish, and of corse I needed to have it translated) 'Next year don't stay at home!' and Steve followed up by saying, looks like you have a future as a missionary! and what do you know, I am leaving for Quito Saturday at 630am. Pastor Coréa was right! ...Pastor Coréa is so cute, he keeps referring to next year when we come. He says he wants to be at Mackenzie and I's wedding in Canada, haha.

I am Canadian, I enjoy maple syrup on everything.
Keith commented on the stereotypes of Canadiens, one being they like syrup on everything.

I can't wait to go home and see my family.

Yummmmmmmy. Oatmeal and fruit cocktail. They have a restaurant in Panama City that is called 'PiuPiu' it is called this because they only sell baby chickens and thats the sound they make! ahhaha

Soundtrack: Home - Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros

There is a big pink flower in the back of this journal, it is called a Panama Rose

again. Pastor Coréa is talking about Mackenzie and I's wedding and how Hétulio can be our honeymoon! haha

Mark was talking about how he saw all these small creepy crawly insects in the river yesterday and they looked like leeches and then he exclaimed, "that would've sucked" ahha.

We were driving up a hill that we had previously walked up at the time, when we had driven to the bottom, Akeil (a small 4 year old boy) exclaimed, 'WHY ME?!?!" and fell to the dirt.  Silly Boy

Also, Todd was telling us about how he went on a missions trip to Panama and they were leaving, the family that they had ben staying with gave a LIVE chicken to one of the girls that were on the team and expected/thought  she could take it home on the plane! ahhaha

Right before we left, Rosa told us a bit of her testimony of how she had been in jail and the Lord saved her within 2 months. That she goes up with Pastor Coréa every mission that she can. That we are her kids and she loves us all very much. She is such a precious, sweet and kind hearted soul. She will be deeply missed.

Now we are heading back down the giant mountain in a monster truck. where we will start the de brief with Pastor Coréa.

Debrief
Who will hold you accountable?
Mackenzie.

Now What?
I will continue a time of devotion everyday and email Todd every two months to keep in touch, speak encouragement and prayer requests. I will continue to work ethics that I had in Hétulio because I am the representation of God at my work place.

What does it mean to be missional?

  • To have a heart for people outside of your area, your comfort zone
  • Sharing the gospel with people who have never heard it
  • Have a mission - how many people have a mission in their life?
  • Being missional is more of an attitude than an action
What is the difference between being missional and ministerial?
  • When on a mission you work until the mission is done, where ministerial is ongoing
  • Ministerial - building up believers -bible degrees/Professional - Preaching to a church
  • Missional - everywhere - more organic - building up people who can't believe or have questions - for all of us, ministerial could be too intimidating - looking outwards - can be ministerial within the missional
What is the difference between being missional and doing missions trips?
  • Being missional is all around
  • Missions trip ends after a few weeks
  • Being missional is who you are, its a lifestyle, it doesn't matter where you are
  • You need to actually do something
  • You could be missional and never go on a missions trip
  • every missions trip in the field needs a support system back home
  • Dont just talk about what you did and the pictures - talk about being missional
Passages that explain being missional:

Acts 4:32-35 - In these verses we see many missional things happening
Missional Attitudes:
  • those who believe in the missions are one soul and heart
  • none were needy
  • united/immunity
  • they didn't believe that everything they had was their own
  • they were selfless
  • motivation to evangelize
Missional Actions
  • shared everything
  • they all gave their testimonies
  • preach the gospel
  • sold whatever property they owned and gave the proceeds to the needy
2 Corinthians 8:1-5 - Paul was raising funds to give to the church in Jerusalem - the church was under the Roman Empire and could not get any food or any money, they needed people to bring it in for them.
  • they were willing to give on their own accord (Volunteer)
  • They were a very poverty filled church but they decided right away that they wanted to get involved
  • Whatever God has given to us, he wants us to give it away for the Glory of God (Strength and Love)
  • whats your purpose on this missions trip? are you giving or are you getting.
Ephesians 4:10-15
  • People who are missional CARE about the gospel being preached, people going on trips, needs around the world, about the world and opportunities.
  • will you continue to care about Hétulio? Pastor Coréa? What will go on if the work continues?
  • Let it be something that will change your heart.
  • Shared in trouble and distress
  • How can you share Hétulio and Pastor Coréa?
  • We prayed for prepared hearts and received prepared hearts
  • They went that extra step. - Connect, Share, Risk, Care, Stayed involved
There's a chance of failure, and it's risky.
